Managing Veterinarian
Dr. Silvia Drekic
Dr. Silvia Drekic is a Louisiana native, where she received her undergraduate degrees in Chemistry and Biology from the University of New Orleans and a Master in Wildlife Conservation at Louisiana State University. California became her home when she was accepted at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, where she ultimately received her DVM in 2001. Her journey in clinical practice began as a mobile equine veterinarian, where she focused on equine sports medicine within the Orange County horse community. Eventually, the mobile unit took on a mixed animal approach, incorporating both traditional and alternative medicine to care for the local horse, llama, alpaca, goat, cat and dog populations in the surrounding areas. In 2018, Dr. Drekic added academia to her career scope. She wanted to make an impact on the veterinary community, by teaching our future veterinary nurses, at Stanbridge University Veterinary Technology Program. Here, she took the role of medical director and program teaching director. She thoroughly enjoyed her tenure as a Professor and still keeps in touch with many of her former students! Prior to joining Overland she led the team at Laguna Beach Animal Hospital as Medical Director of a general small animal practice.
Dr. Drekic has a passion for volunteering in remote areas around the globe helping people care for their pets and working animals via the Humane Society and Rural Area Veterinary Services. She hopes to bring this passion to our local Los Angeles communities to help those in need. She is excited to be Overland’s Managing DVM and looks forward to working together with the local community in caring for their pets. Her special interest includes senior wellness, nutrition, preventative care, dental health and internal medicine. She is a member of the AVMA, CVMA, SCVMA, Senior Dog Vet society, Fear-Free certified. She is also a Veterinary Acupuncturist and Food Animal therapist and strives to integrate these alternative medical tools within traditional methods of treatment. When Dr. D is not taking care of your animals she enjoys spending her free time with her husband, 4 children, 3 grandchildren, 2 cats-(Manny and Gigi), and Polly the Pyrenees pup. She loves to hike, strength train, cook and read suspense novels!
